Overshadowed by the Vietnam war

In the 1950’s The United States began sending military advisors to Vietnam. This was followed by US troops arriving in the mid 1960’s, resulting in 25 years of ensuing war that created some of the strongest tensions in U.S. history. The American statistics are well known, yet the story of the Vietnamese is extremely important, even more so, as the war resulted in the devastation of a country and its population.

Telling the moving tale of another war that was taking place amidst a greater chaos, Ngo The Vinh’s The Green Belt ($23.95, Ivy Publishing Group) uncovers the forgotten uprising between the Montagnards of the Thuong tribe and the lowland Vietnamese.  Following in the footsteps of Triet, a young Vietnamese reporter, the war-time atmosphere and growing animosity between the Thuong Central Highlanders and lowland Vietnamese is captured allowing a complete picture of a people driven from their homeland to be portrayed.

“I am impressed with the knowledge, foresight and sympathy that Ngo The Vinh displays in The Green Belt which he wrote more than thirty years ago already,” states Dr. Oscar Salemink, an anthropologist at Free University in Amsterdam. “The dynamics and dilemmas depicted were real dilemmas for various parties involved and especially for the Thuong people who are portrayed as victims of various policies and conflicts.”

The Green Belt will be available in March 2004 through major book retailers, Amazon.com or by calling the publisher on 1-800-948-2786.
